WHEN: Thursday, March 9th from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM
WHERE: Cine Rent West located at 2330, NW 31st Ave. Non metered street parking available if all the visitor parking spots in the parking lot are full.
GUEST SPEAKER: Corky Collier, from Columbia Corridor Association.
Corky Collier to present the MP2H final report that was done after Columbia Corridor, Working Waterfront Coalition and NIBA members Craig Hamilton and Greg Madden worked on for BPS and the Public Working Group for the MP2H.
Corky explained that the extension of the streetcar line from Montgomery Park to Hollywood area (MP2H) would require that zoning in the area around the old ESCO property would be changed from mostly HI to mixed use and other retail/commercial zoning. Although the city has made a final suggestion to submit to City Council, NIBA, CCA and WWC worked to create a survey and final report. This final report was discussed in the meeting and it would be presented to Barry Manning with BPS and also put up on the NIBA website. Corky fielded some questions and Greg mentioned that the survey that was done was an attempt to confirm that the loss of good paying living wage industrial jobs would be impacted and eliminated with a major zoning change from industrial to other mixed/residential zoning.
Chris Crever introduced Russ Hubbard to discuss some recent crime in the area including about $80,000 worth of tools taken from one of his tenants, Schmeer Sheet Metal off of Vaughn. There was a group of business owners BCS, Lovett, Hubbard Construction who met to discuss possibly joining with ech other to hire a private security firm. Andrea Smith with Homestreet Bank spoke up about her experiences with working for a security firm and that there needs to be care taken especially if hiring an armed security firm. It was finally discussed that maybe NIBA could look into working with these members to discuss a cooperatively hired security company down the road.
