What is it the Metro Central Enhancement Grant?
The Metro Central Community Enhancement Grant program is designed to enhance neighborhoods located near the Metro Central transfer facility (6161 NW 61st Ave). They are designed to support residents within the neighborhoods of Forest Park, Cathedral Park and Linnton; the Northwest District Association and the Northwest Industrial Area; and an area directly adjacent to the St. Johns Bridge. The grant boundary is below.
In a typical grant cycle, Metro has approximately $250,000 available in community enhancement grant funding for Northwest Portland neighborhoods to build vibrant communities, protect clean air and water, maintain healthy ecosystems and support our community’s underserved residents.
What does this committee do?
Annually attend three committee meetings (May, October, and November).
Set an annual grant making budget based on available surcharge revenue at Metro Central transfer station.
Approve grant application questions and agree upon evaluation criteria.
Promote grant application period to local partners.
Select which proposals will receive funding.
Committee members are eligible to receive a $75/hr stipend for their participation on the committee.

For this position we are recruiting people who represents the business community in the grant boundary area.
People with the interest and ability to work well with a team and collaborate effectively with committee members from a variety of backgrounds
People with lived or professional experiences supporting efforts that address community needs
People with a desire to make a difference and advance Metro’s values of community-led decision making and more equitable distribution of public resources
What’s the time commitment?
Term length for committee members is two years (5/2023 – 5/2025) with the option to serve a second term.
Committee members will commit to attending up to 3 meetings per year (approximately 2-3 hours each) and complete all prep work prior to meetings (approximately 2-3 hours per meeting)

What knowledge or experience do you brin gin understanding how programs, services and grant dollars can benefit underserved communities?
Do you now have or anticipate any conflicts of interest that might require you to excuse yourself from the review of any potential project? Please explain. For example, do you or a family member work for or serve on the board of an organization that might seek a grant from this program? Are you a consultant or employed by an organization that might be interested in submitting a proposal for the type of work that this program funds?
